Cannabidiol in skincare: the on-trend skin superfood and its benefits

Cannabidiol can significantly improve rosacea, as it minimises redness and broken capillaries

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the non-intoxicating component of marijuana or hemp plants. With its powerful phytochemical properties, it is capable of incredible healing and potential. In skincare, the oil itself does not have any drug-like effects, because it does not have the mind-altering properties of marijuana's tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content.

Many brands selling CBD skin products list the total CBD content in milligrams. This is a good indicator that the CBD product is legitimate. Purchase products only in stable packaging, rather than jars or clear products that expose the delicate plant ingredient to light or air.

As is well-known, the main cause of skin ageing is inflammation. Fortunately, CBD has been shown to relieve common skin issues by reducing inflammation and boosting skin micronutrients (Paula's Choice, 2021). Additional benefits to the skin include powerhouse antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents that can help treat conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, as well as reducing a wide range of inflammatory acnes. CBD is also commonly used to improve troubled sleep with its relaxation abilities, helping to ease stress and anxiety.
