New areas of aesthetic nursing to be covered in JAN

Volume 12 · Issue 5

In the rapidly-growing aesthetics sector, it is more important than ever to keep abreast of the many technological advances that may be of use to practitioners. At the heart of the Journal of Aesthetic Nursing also lies the spirit of enhancing aesthetic nurses' ever-growing professional knowledge. That is, in this journal, we are committed to building a helpful community of practitioners.

From this issue onwards, I am more than excited to introduce aesthetics consultant Vanessa Bird as a regular contributor in the practice management section. Vanessa is extremely knowledgeable about the business aspect of aesthetics and has a wealth of insight into the future of the sector. Do keep an eye out for her articles in issues to come.

This June issue, we are covering quite a few technical topics in aesthetics. We start off with healthcare writer Francesca Ramadan's introduction to acne scars and treatment options (as it is acne awareness month), along with an introduction to polynucleotides from one of our board members, Alexandra Mills Haq. Editorial board member and nurse Claudia McGloin brings you to take a look at the recent advancements in research.

Moving on, Aesthetic Awards Winner–Aesthetic Nurse of the Year 2023, Melanie Recchia from the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN), talks in detail about the technique of aspiration, while integrative psychologist from the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP), Kimberley Cairns, delves into body dysmorphia in aesthetic practice and what practitioners can do.

Going into practice management, aesthetic consultant Vanessa Bird provides you with some ideas on how to choose the next device for your clinic. Kash Dosanjh and Adam Berstein write about employee grievances and assisting employees with the cost-of-living crisis respectively.

In particular, inspired by the head of the editorial board, nurse Cheryl Barton, in this issue there is a letter from JAN on the use of terminology in aesthetics. This is a very important read and I do hope that all practitioners could pay attention to the manner in which terms are being used in this field.

Happy reading, and enjoy the summer sunshine!
